In today's video, we take an In-Depth look at that Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT which is a homage to the ever famous Rolex Explorer 2 Reference 1655, also known to as the "Steve McQueen".. The Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT is a very fine wristwatch indeed, which represent incredible value for money (even when adding on extortionate import taxes and currency exchange fees for non EU countries). Another nice feature of the movement is the [inherited] hacking seconds feature. This is my Steinhart Ocean 39 Vintage GMT, my first and only 'homage' watch. I think this is a perfect example of an homage done right. It celebrates the original Rolex Explorer II, reference 1655. Recently, Steinhart has released a limited "Steinhart Ocean 39 Vintage GMT Boutique Edition", a reminiscence of the famous Rolex Explorer II Ref. 1655. While the standard model of the Vintage GMT has a diameter of 42 mm, the LE measures 39 mm.
This is my first and only Steinhart watch, and is an obvious homage to the early 70’s Rolex 1655 “Steve McQueen”. I have a similar cheapie watch from Tiger Concepts that uses a Chinese movement, and a case that more closely resembles the original, but with faux vintage lume and no magnifier.
