It appears as though the American Idol bosses are going to have to dig deep into the pockets if they want to keep Jennifer Lopez on the show for another season, after reports suggested that the star is demanding more than Britney Spears’ $15 million X Factor USA deal. It is believed that the star who is currently on $12 million wants more than her reality TV judge rival, according to HollywoodLife. A source revealed: “J LO and American Idol are striving for headlines, along with it being ‘strictly business,’ she is also for sure wanting more money than Britney Spears to return.” Believing that the speculation surrounding Jennifer’s future will go on for a while, the source added: “She is not signed for next year but nothing is better in Nigel’s eyes than people talking about American Idol and who the judges will be all summer. Look what it did with The X Factor!” The reports that Jen is demanding more money comes after another report suggested that she was quitting American Idol for her beau Casper Smart. According to ShowbizSpy, a source revealed: “Jennifer is about to undo the smartest career decision she ever made — and give up her job as an American Idol judge. “She’ll do anything to keep Casper happy.” |

Jennifer Lopez is playing coy about signing up for a third year of American Idol and Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe says she needs to make up her mind. Lythgoe told Reuters that Lopez must decide whether to sign up as a judge or go in a different direction. Lopez has said she is not sure about renewing her contract saying she is “just too busy.” Some are speculating that Lopez’s delayed decision is a negotiation ploy. Lythgoe told reporters on a conference call Friday that all three Idol judges, Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson have other things going on, but that he would like to have them all back for next season. “She (Jennifer) has had a wonderful resurgence – world’s most beautiful woman (for People magazine), two No. 1 records – she is doing brilliantly. She is going to have to balance everthing up, as is Steven Tyler, too. It’s not just Jennifer,” Lythgoe said in the Reuters report. Lopez took to Twitter to tell fans she hasn’t quite made up her mind. “There is no truth to reports that say I am definitely leaving ‘Idol’,” the pop singer tweeted on Thursday. “All I said was I haven’t decided what I am doing next year.” This season’s American Idol is down to two finalists and the two-part finale will be broadcast on Fox on May 22 and 23. |
